With the sun shining what better way to spend the afternoon than to pay a visit and check on progress at our latest project for Robertsons Boatyard, Woodbridge.

The existing boatyard has suffered from flooding on spring tides for many years. As part of an ongoing masterplan for the boatyard, Plaice were commissioned to secure consent for the creation of a 4,000 sqm hardstanding. The hardstanding  will sit above the level of the spring tide and will provide additional capacity for the storage of boats (more than doubling the existing capacity), while also providing a safe refuge for plant and equipment.

The site is situated within the River Deben estuary and is a RAMSAR site (wetland of international importance) with an associated Special Protected Area (SPA status designation). It is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) relating to the estuarine processes that operate there.

Due to the sensitive nature of the site and with works being carried out below the mean high water level, consents were required from various agencies/authorities, including the Environment Agency, Natural England, Historic England, Marine Management Organisation and not forgetting SCDC (who unanimously approved the scheme at Planning Committee).
